The C-5 Galaxy is the largest airlifter in the US Air Force inventory, with unmatched cargo volume and payload capacity. It can project greater combat payloads over longer distances than any other airlifter. It is also the only aircraft capable of carrying 100 percent of certified air-transportable cargo. The C-5 was built with unit integrity in mind offering a full load of combat equipment in the cargo bay as well as support personnel in the dedicated troop compartment above the cargo bay. It is designed to perform both strategic and tactical missions, with the ability to take off and land in distances as short as 5000 ft. The C-5 is flown by active duty, Guard and Reserve units of the Air Force and has successfully served the United States and its allies in every major contingency involving strategic interest of our nation and humanity since its first delivery nearly 40 years ago.
